Its been many days since I have heard the term 'virtual memory'. On carefully browsing about it I came to know that its size matters in the processing speed but I did not get much of it. I tried seeing my size of virtual memory but unsuccessful. Could anyone please tell me about the virtual memory in the computer, its recommended size on a particular condition and why is it important? I would also like to know its relation with the hard disk.

Please, I want these questions to be fulfilled!

To be honest, I only know a thing about SATA and PATA that is, they are the type or versions of hard disk. I want to know what is the actual difference among SATA and PATA and what do they stand for? Are SATA more expensive than PATA? Which has more data processing capacity? How to distinguish among them and finally which is good? Please, I want all these questions answered to my better understanding about hard disks.

Couple of days ago my friends were talking about something called primary memory and secondary memory and I had to remain shut since I knew nothing about it. Similarly, today I even heard some tech newbie saying about the same. Actually what is the difference among them. Up to now I have just known that primary memory is volatile and secondary memory is non volatile but I very desperately want to know more about it.

I do not know a lot about processors but I would like to know about cache memory? What is actually that L1 cache, L2 cache and others, does the cache memory have any effect on the processing speed of a computer and why is the size of cache memory so low? I have also noticed that the core i3, i5 and i7 have a larger volume of cache memory. Are the cache memory a part of processors?

Actually, my question is about choosing the right hard drive. How do we distinguish among hard drives of the same capacity? Is it distinguished because of their data processing speed or anything else? I want to know it. Can I know weather a hard disk's processing speed is fast or slow because of its label? Or is it like it has versions in it. Anyway, whatever it has because of data processing, I would like to know.
