Adobe Illustrator CS4 not responding, help please!

What should I do if an error message is telling me that my Adobe Illustrator CS4 is not responding? This is the only Adobe application that is having a problem. The rest are working properly. Adobe Illustrator hangs up and does not respond whenever I am trying to open it.

This error occurred after upgrading my Operating System to Windows 7 64 bit. After installing Adobe CS4 Web Premium in it, all Adobe applications work well without a problem except this Adobe Illustrator. I don’t think it is not compatible with Windows 7 64Bit is it? I need some help from IT Professionals out here.

You can try to re-install the Adobe Illustrator CS4, high percentage of problems regarding “program not responding” are re-installing. But if that solution still doesn't work try a cleaner tool, go to this site for this one: 

You can check also the event viewer on your computer to see what error or what is the problem why the installation didn’t work, by doing that, you can have an idea how to solve your problem. If you don’t know how to go to your computer's event viewer, go to Control panel -> Administrative tool ->event viewer.

By the way, check your software if it is compatible to install in a 64 bit O. S. If your software can run only in a 32 bit, you cannot install it to a 64 bit and maybe that’s your problem.

You should check just to be sure that indeed the adobe illustrator CS4 is compatible is compatible to the windows 7 64 bit that you have installed and stop assuming that is not, because that could be the possible cause of the problem. In case it has compatibility issues you need to get a version that is meant to work on 64 bit window 7 operating system.

To verify if adobe illustrator is compatible to the operating system you are using is easy. In case you have the setup application on a CD, you just need to check its specifications for the system it can work on by viewing the cover of the CD. But in case you downloaded it from the internet, you will need to view the manual that came with the download or the readme file; it should be having those details.

If you have 64-bit Windows 7 and Adobe Illustrator CS4 is not working or is not responding, that’s because your operating system is not supported. The program is not designed to run on your operating system. Check the system requirements again and verify that your computer meets those requirements.

Adobe Illustrator CS4 supports Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise edition). It requires 2 GHz or faster processor, 512 MB RAM, 2 GB free space, 1024 x 768 minimum screen resolution, and 16-bit video card. Since you’re on Windows 7, try launching Illustrator in compatibility mode. Right-click Adobe Illustrator CS4 and select “Properties”.

In the properties window, go to “Compatibility” tab. Under “Compatibility mode” section, check “Run this program in compatibility mode for” then select a version of Windows XP or Windows Vista from the dropdown list. Click “OK” then start Illustrator. If this doesn’t work and the problem continues, shift to a different version like use Adobe Illustrator CS5 instead. Adobe Illustrator CS5 supports Windows 7.
