Hi there,

This error appeared when I tried to open a workbook with Excel created with a model for PowerPivot. It worked just fine until now. I know some friends who had the same error and no solution was found. Can anyone help me fix this error? Thank you!

Microsoft Excel

This workbook has a PowerPivot data model created using a previous version of the PowerPivot add-in. You’ll need to upgrade this data model with PowerPivot for Excel 2013.

Hello,

This error is appearing because the workbook you’re trying to open was created using Power Pivot add-in in an older version of MS Excel. You have to update the workbook so that you can do work with it. Before doing, you have to know that, after upgrading, you can’t work with the workbook in older version of MS Excel.

1. Open MS Excel 2013.

2. Click Power Pivot >> Manage to begin the upgrading process.

3. The error message will appear again. Click “OK”.

4. Upgrade the data model. It will ask for confirmation. Click “OK”.

5. Save and reload the workbook.

Your workbook is upgraded and won’t show you any more error. Remember that the upgraded one can’t be used in older version of Excel so you might like to create a copy of the older version before doing this task.
