Transponder board eZ430-TMS37157 RFID tag causing error

For some reason, I get this error:“Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore the error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

The given port name does not start with COM/com or does not resolve to a valid serial port. Parameter name: portName.”

I got this error after downloading and installing all the necessary software and drivers and making all proper connections between the computer and transponder board.

The transponder board I bought is the eZ430-TMS37157 Development Tool which is an RFID tag and transponder board at the same time. It comes up with a demo software which is downloadable from the internet.

Every time I open the demo software, to test out the tag's signal processing, I receive this odd error (as seen in the screenshot).

I tried to click on the Continue button but the message keeps on appearing right back. What is more frustrating is it continuously do so which gave me no option but  to click on the Quit button.

I am completely stuck on this one. I've been trying to find a solution for months. If anyone can give me any type of help it would be much appreciated.

First check to make sure if the board is working or not. Look the board physically and see if any of the ICs is physically damaged or not. Because it can also be the reason of this entire thing.

  • Get a tester and check the board with it.
  • Once done check the connecting cables that came with it. There might be chance that the cable is bent or damaged somehow.
  • Change the USB ports and try using a different one.
  • Download the latest USB driver required for the board
  • Update the firmware of the board.
  • There is a complete troubleshooting guide over here. You can visit the link just in case the above steps won't solve the problem for you.
