I am using Mac Operating system and received a mail error message trying to access Microsoft outlook. The error is “Mail could not be received at this time”. I have also attached an error image so that you come up with better solution. Your assistance would be appreciated.

The server for account ******* returned the error “authentication failed” Your username/password or security settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your password?

I thought there was a problem with the receiving of messages from the server. It seems you just entered either an incorrect username or an incorrect password. Since a dialog box appeared after committing the error, you are probably using an email client for OS X. This means either the password or the username is incorrect when you entered it on the email client.
When you configure an email client to access your email account and fetch email messages, the username and password you used in the configuration is saved unless you selected an option which prevents saving of the username and password. Once the configuration is finished and you start the client to fetch your messages, it will use the username and password you specified during the configuration.
If one of the two details is incorrect, an error is thrown and displaying a message. To fix this, just go back to the settings and enter the correct username and password. If you can’t remember the exact details, open your web browser and access your email account using the web interface. Verify your username and password and save it on your email client.
If you really cannot remember your username or password, try resetting your password. This will trigger the webmail service to reset your password and send a temporary password to your recovery email address. Once the temporary password is sent, log in to your recovery email address and open the email message that was sent. Take note of the temporary password.
Log out from your recovery email account and then log in to your email account that needs to be recovered. Use the supplied temporary password to log in to your account. Once logged in, change the password. Log out from your account and log in back to verify that your new password is working. Once this is done, go back to your email client and save the new password.
