I spend a small fortune always replacing my earbuds because the wires are broken. It doesnt seem to matter whether I spend a lot or a little on them. When the wires break can I some I somehow repair the broken wires with something? Prefer not to tape them together.

Repairing broken ear buds is not impossible, but actually, it is a bit difficult to take them back to use without taping the wires, since the usage of tapes is the most successful manner to add durability to the newly repaired wires.
So, I would like to advise you not to think that using tapes adds a dull look, but you can repair it in such a way that only a very keen eye can recognize the ear buds are repaired and taped.
