Hallo,

I own a terabyte WD external hard drive, which I want to use as a major source of saving. Therefore, my question is how can I hook up an external hard drive to an Xbox 360 to save any media or music to it?

Thanks.

Hi Ingridgonzalou,

You can connect a usb external hard drive like your Terabyte WD External Hard drive to your Xbox 360 but be aware that usb external hard drives cannot be used for Xbox Live Marketplace content. And the Xbox’s own memory is required to download from there.

In order to connect an external hard drive to your Xbox,

  •  Connect the external hard drive to your pc.
  •  Create a Fat32 partition using software like Partition Logic or Partition Magic. You have to make sure it is in Fat32 format; otherwise it will not work with your Xbox.

Once you've done that you should be able to load content into your drive from your pc and connect it to your Xbox with a usb adaptor. Also note that a Fat32 partition does not support files that are larger than 4 Gb, or sometimes even 2 Gb.

Since you plan to use it to save media and music files, it should not be a problem for you.

Hope that helps.
