Failed to check for installed applications

Hello Everybody,

I was having Windows XP to be a dual boot with Feisty fawn. As a new user I’m getting error with my Feisty when tried to perform Add/Remove application. I’d follow some basic guide on updating and installing then I tried to input it into the terminal.

I do run first sudo apt-get update and followed by sudo apt-get install –f but no good output. I don’t have an idea of changing source list. Below is the error message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Failed to check for installed and available applications

This is a major failure of your software management system. Please check for broken packages with synaptic check the file permissions and correctness of the file ‘/etc/apt/sources.list’ and reload the software information with: ‘sudo apt-get update’ and ‘sudo apt-get install -f’.

Failed to check for installed applications

Hello Connan,

You are trying to install windows XP on a computer that already has the Linux operating system, feisty fawn installed, right? Then it might be a bit tricky that way. I will suggest that if you want to install a dual for windows and the feisty fawn then have windows XP installed and thereafter you can install feisty fawn, but make sure you place it on the same partition as windows.

The problem could also be with the feisty fawn setup itself. From the error message, it seems like the package misses some important components that are making the installation to be unsuccessful, and therefore you will need to get another setup for that operating system.

Hope this helps.
