Laptop Screen Resolution Changing automatically to 640 * 480

The Windows Desktop Screen Resolution is automatically switched into the lowest (640*480) mode. I am using a GeForce 8200 Graphics card with an AMD processor. I am not sure if it is a software bug or a hardware issue. Once manually changed, the resolution switches back to normal though....
