Windows Defender Update Failure Error

Hello, TechyV!

My laptop comes with Windows Defender with an automatic update feature. Recently I allowed the latest updates but after downloading I got the following error message on my taskbar.

Some forums I have read say to try uninstalling Windows Defender and installing it again. Even if that solves the update error, wouldn't I lose those last updates in the first place? Suggestions are much welcome, thanks!

Windows Defender Update Failure Error

Yes it does but that’s not matter because when you download windows defender to re-install you have the package that contain all the new update. So saving that you will also save all the updates. So I think you need the windows defender home page oh man it is so big.

Now click on the “get it now” link. A new page will come and you will see requirement and other information.

So when you are ready to download simply click on the link “download”.

Follow the pop up window and do as you need to install.

Windows Defender Update Failure Error

Solution 1:

Make sure that once you installed the windows defender. Turn off your windows firewall or have it in the allowed programs in your Firewall settings and then restart the computer as well.

Solution 2:

You can just simply download the new windows defender on the internet and then have it installed in your computer to update it.

Solution 3:

Just download and install Microsoft Security Essentials. It is a Windows Defender plus Anti Virus in just one package. In this case, you won't need windows defender anymore. You have to make sure that you have a genuine XP before installing this though.
