which windows 2000 product is most suitable for client workstations and when is it appropriate to use windows 2000 as a peer network?

Windows 2000 will work for any type of configuration you want it to run for you. Actually it was built on the fact that for any type of customer, it is easy for him to setup a connection without going an extra mile to have different type of softwares and packages installed before doing the actual thing.
Just download or purchase the standard windows 2000 for your system.
Have a bootable cd and insert it to start the installation.
Do some settings and give the path to specific files.
After that you can also use the WMWare workstation to setup more than 1 servers if you have a powerful machine that can handle the load of such servers.
