The process of installing an Exchange on the domain server should not be preferred. Also, this procedure is not recommended by Microsoft. If you install Exchange on your domain controller, you might face any of the following issues.

  1. Configuring Exchange 2016 edition won’t be supported.
  2. Shutting down your computer will take a large amount of time if you do so.
  3. Both processes take up a lot of computer resources, and it will cause the computer the computer to slow down.
  4. Also, sliding down a domain controller to a member is not authorized.

Hence exchange server needs to be a domain controller.
