I am a novice gamer and I just got the latest far cry game for my pc. My system is four years all, when I load the game it seems to lag. Also I heard that FPS determines how smoothly your game runs on a pc. What is meant by FPS? How can I crank up the FPS?

Hello Scott,

FPS means frames per second. In video, the higher the FPS the smoother the video is. Basically, videos are composed of multiple frames, hence, these frames are the still pictures that when combined produces a video. Since you have an old rig, you may follow the tips below to increase your FPS.

1. Optimize your game settings. You might need to lower or disable some effects to achieve higher FPS.

2. Update your driver to the newest version.

3. Overclock your hardware. This might be complex but this is your best bet to increase performance.

“FPS” stands for “Frames Per Second.” It refers to the display or the monitor. FPS is a unit that measures the performance of a display device like the monitor. It is composed of the number of complete scans of the screen for every second. This is the number of times or how frequent the image on the screen is refreshed every second.

It is the rate at which an imaging device creates unique sequential images called “frames.” Now, if you play “Far Cry” and you experience lagging, you need to check the game’s system requirements and verify that your computer meets those requirements. Far Cry supports Windows 2000 and Windows XP only.

It requires 1 GHz Intel Pentium 3 or equivalent AMD Athlon or faster processor, 256 MB RAM, Microsoft DirectX 9.0b-compatible video card with 64 MB video RAM, sound card, and 4 GB free space. Far Cry is a first-person shooter game franchise all published by Ubisoft. The first game was developed by Crytek to debut their CryEngine software and released in March 2004.
