I have problem with the Master Boot Record. When I try to run d:i386winnt32.exe /cmdcons, I get a message saying that the system is newer than the CD’s and is not allowing installation.

Is there anything that I can do? Please help me solve this problem. Thanks.

This problem shows that you cannot run a version of winnt32.exe.  It is might be on computers that have a windows XP or Windows XP Service pack 2.

Actually a newer version of winnt32.exe is detected by Windows XP that is on either of the previous CDs. There are three following possible solution to resolve this problem.

  1. Click on Start and type CD drive letteri386winnt32.exe/cmdcons in Run, and press enter
  2. Another solution is that before the installation of Windows XP SP2, Install the Recover Console. And then Install Windows XP SP2.
  3. Or you can create a windows XP SP2 installation folder.
  4. Then Click on Start and type Folderpathi386winnt32.exe/cmdcons in Run and press enter.
  5. Folderpath is the drive and folder name where you create Windows XP SP 2 installation folder.
  6. By clicking “Yes” confirm the installation process when you asked. Now restart the Computer "Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" will appear on the startup menu when you restart your Computer.
