I have heard about SATA and PATA. They are the cables available for data transfer on the motherboard. What are the major differences between SATA and PATA? Which one of them is fastest? Which one is used in the Play Station 4 and XBOX ONE? What will be the data transfer wire for motherboards?

Hi Joseph,

PATA connectors consist of flat ribbon cables with 40 or 80 wires where SATA is much smaller in size and have thinner cables.
PATA has a data-transfer rate of 133 Megabytes per second. SATA has been increasing its data-transfer rate over the years and the third generation SATAs have a transfer rate of 600 Gbps. These have more capacities and are capable of boosting the performance in an excellent manner. SATA is widely used in XBox one and PS4 because of its high performance.

Regards,
Anyet

SATA and PATA are drive interfaces. SATA also referred to as Serial ATA is fairly new to the market compared to PATA also referred to as IDE, hence, most devices will come SATA interface including XBOX ONE and Playstaion 4. SATA offers transfer speeds of up to 300 mbs/s while PATA speed is upto 130mbs/s. SATA cables are smaller compared to PATA cables which are wider. You can check the images here.
