There are two possible methods to enable the imap4 client connectivity. You can do this using the ‘Exchange Management Shell’ or ‘Microsoft Management Console.’

To enable via the Exchange Management Shell, follow these steps. Use the following commands on the PC using Mailbox server role:

  1. To automatically start the service on Microsoft Exchange imap4, set it to: ‘Set-service msExchangeIMAP4 –startuptype automatic.’
  2. To start the service: ‘Start-service msExchangeIMAP4’
  3. To set to automatically start backend service: ‘Set-service msExchangeIMAP4BE –startuptype automatic.’
  4. To resume the Backend service: ‘Start-service msExchangeIMAP4BE’

To enable using Microsoft Management Console, follow these steps:

  1. In the ‘Console tree,’ from the snap-in Services, select Services (local).
  2. Now right-click on the ‘Microsoft Exchange imap4’ and select ‘Properties.’
  3. In the opened tab, right-click on the ‘Microsoft Exchange imap4 Backend’ and then select ‘Properties.’
  4. Click on ‘Start’ in the Service status. After that, click ‘Ok.’
