USB stick does not work with old USB Hub

I am having difficulties using my USB memory stick that should work on a USB extension cord which is connected into my old hub. I keep getting an error that the device does not recognized by the system. I tried my USB mouse and gamepad and there is no problem. I can be able to connect the USB memory stick directly into the computer port but when using the old hub, it won’t work.  Is there something that I need to install? Or the hub is already damaged? How will I know? Thanks

Hallo Alan,

It seems that your old hub is damaged and its USB ports have worn out. So what you will need to do is get new USB ports and replace the old ones for it to be able to work again.

You should be able to get replacements of the USB ports from any supplier of computers and electronic equipment near you, or alternatively you can take the hub to someone who repairs computers and electronic equipment so that they can replace the USB ports for you.

Or if the hub is in an very bad condition you may just consider buying a new one.

Hallo Allan,

It is more likely that your memory is corrupted and the best resolution to that will be to reformat it. That will have an adverse effect though for it will completely get rid of data, but it seems that the data is corrupted and inaccessible anyway.

The good thing is that after reformatting the memory you will be able to use the flash drive again and there may be still be a way by which you can use to find  the data on the computer that you worked on.

So you will just need to check your documents or a place where you would save it by chance/luck. In case that does not help, you can go to search and then  type the exact name of the project file.

Carl

Check if you can connect USB devices on your USB hub and they are recognized successfully. The devices should be detected and recognized successfully if the USB hub is working properly. If this works, the next to check is the USB extension cable. Connect the extension cable directly to the USB port then plug a USB device on the extension cable.

If there is no problem with the extension cable, the device should be detected and recognized successfully. If this works, try connecting the extension cable to the USB hub then plug a device on the extension cable. If this doesn’t work, try the other way around. Unplug the USB hub from the USB port. Next, plug the USB extension cable directly to the USB port.

After this, plug the USB hub to the extension cable. Maybe this will work because the job of the extension cable is to literally extend the length of the USB port while the USB hub is to extend the number of USB ports.
