Unwanted popping up of whatsapp notifications

I am new to Whatsapp. I am very specific about my privacy. That's why I changed most of the privacy settings on my debut day on whatsapp. I also don't want my family member to read my chats, so I changed notification settings. But still, whenever someone message me, a notification pops up on homescreen of my phone. I have tried my best to stop it but failed. Please help to stop these notifications to be popped up on the homescreen. I will be thankful to you.

Hi Rex M Patten,

It would have been a lot easier to help you if you had given me the name and model of your phone. These notifications can be blocked from your home screen, but the process by which to do it is dependent on the type of phone you have. Generally, if you can enter the message notification settings on your phone simply disable pop up icon for Whatsapp, it may ask yes/no, just select no.
