Unable to open hard drives and folders.

I’m using Windows 7 32-bit. I installed the latest version of Internet Explorer. After it finished installing it prompts to restart my computer. I rebooted and then a configuration of Windows took place before it loaded the desktop.

When I tried to open one of my hard drives an error message appeared.

Please see the image attached.

"C:
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.
Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control".

This also appears when I open any folder except folders on desktop.

I noticed that this error message occurs only when I open the folders or hard drive by double clicking.

Right clicking it and selecting open does not give this kind of error. But do I have to do that over and over again every time I open a certain hard drive or folder?

How can I fix this error without removing the installed IE 9?

Need help of some experts here.

Your problem can be solved but before that I want to tell you some thing like when you double click on any drive you will basically be executing the AutoExecution scripts. So It may be possible that your IE9 might be an effected one! But try to restore your system and then check your drives if they're working properly.

Then install any other browser for the demo. If that also doesn't work properly then uninstall it and then install the IE9.

You'll see the difference.

You can fix the association for folder and drive by download the fixes from the link (Use Right-click – Save as option in your browser to download the fixes).

Unzip the fix and extract the .REG file to the Desktop. Right click the REG file and choose Merge. Note that you need to be an administrator to apply these fixes.
