Dear,

I would like to kindly point out that I had encrypted one of the folders, in a drive ,other than the one in which my Windows XP-SP 3 is loaded. For some reason, formatted my computer with same Now, after the formatting, I am unable to open any of the documents in the encrypted folder. The files in this folder are Word, Excel,PDF and JPEG types.

Word file shows :"USER DOESN'T HAVE ACCESS PRIVILEGES".The Excel files shows "DOCUMENTS ARE READ ONLY OR ENCRYPTED".The PDF files tells me" THERE WAS AN ERROR OPENING THIS DOCUMENT. ACCESS DENIED", whereas the JPEG files showing up as "NO PREVIEW AVAILABLE".

I configuration of my Laptop COMPAQ(MODEL 610), is as under:-

INTEL CORE 2 DUO CPU
2GHz PROCESSOR
3GB RAM

I would request you to kindly suggest me a way in which i could decrypt my files.

It has nothing got to do with the configuration of your machine. The encrypted files have some associated information with the directories and other system files.

First that did you make files encrypted using the OS built-in software or did it using some other external software installed? It is that the file that contained the information about the encrypted files has been lost.

Try the auto hard disk recovery software to re get the file and then you shall be able to decrypt them. If this is not possible then get to the forums of the software you have used and then try the FAQ in their forums. Or post a new thread.

Thanks.

You have asked me whether I have made the above mentioned folders encrypted using the OS built-in software or did I do it using some other external software. I would like to mention here that I have encrypted the folder using the OS built-in software. Also, the Windows XP that i have in my system is not the original version.
