The sound in my computer disappeared after the installation of a software that converts sound from tapes to PC, it worked for a while and then disappeared. I reinstalled the sound card but it seems that it is not a good solution. Any help please?

First of all to determine if the software you installed was the primary cause for the loss of your volume, try uninstalling first the program you had installed and restart your computer. If volume still has not returned, update your sound card and if the problem is still not fixed then you can rule out the possibility of the program you had installed was the cause of the problem.

The most common reason for this is that the cable from your computer to your speakers had been disconnected. Make sure that the cable from your computer to your speakers is properly plugged in. If all cables are properly plugged in, you can try replacing the cable with another cable that you know is working. Also make sure that your sound system had not been put on mute.

Another reason for your loss of sound could be due to a virus that has infected your system. Make sure to thoroughly scan your computer for any malicious or harmful programs. If all else fails then you will have to let your computer be checked by a computer technician as the loss of sound may be an underlying symptom of something else.

Hope this helps.

Since you have re-installed the sound card lets determined the sound driver in Device manager.

  • Any exclamation mark in Device Manger and Driver not listed in Sound indicates that the sound driver is Not installed properly.
  • Right on the Sound driver and Update or download the latest version of Sound driver from the Computer manufacturer Website.
  • It is also possible that the software that converts sound is not compatible with the sound driver and or Windows XP.
  • If the software is free check if it is the latest version and install the Latest Version.
  • If that fails, post the application name and Computer Model and Manufacturer.
