I would like a brief technical description of what firewall is. How was this software developed? How does this software function to ward off imminent attack? Could you also elaborate on how to write firewall scripts to enhance my system security? How do I get started and what protocols do I need to follow?

All the activities done a system when connected to internet have to get pass through firewall such that it blocks the suspicious criteria issues. In organizations, a single computer can be chosen for all the file activities and making all the systems connected to it makes the organization secure. Firewalls allows the files, data to get through it except some predefined data or it can restrict all the data. If you are using Microsoft Windows as your operating system on your computer, your computer is protected by a firewall. Microsoft Windows has a built-in firewall that blocks certain ports from getting accessed outside your system. Generally, a firewall is a network security system which is either software-based or hardware-based that manages incoming and outgoing network traffic.

The firewall acts as a barrier or a wall between a trusted network and other untrusted networks like the internet. It controls or manages access to a network’s resources by means of a positive control model. This means the only traffic allowed or permitted into the network are the ones defined or identified in the firewall policy and all other traffic is denied.

Actually, the term firewall was borrowed from firefighting and fire prevention by computer security where a firewall literally means a barrier established to stop fire from spreading. Before firewalls appeared in the late 1980s, the only actual form of network security was done by ACLs or Access Control Lists which exists on routers.
