Is mobile gaming, via smart phones and tablets, a threat to handheld consoles? Can mobile gaming replace console gaming or are they designed for totally different markets?  Will the console players go for the easier and simpler mobile games or will they stick to their Nintendo and Sony Vita?

Smart phones and Tablets Versus Handheld Consoles

Judging by the current trend today, I can say that mobile gaming is slowly but surely chipping off handheld gaming consoles' powers for handheld gaming supremacy. Gamers all around the world are shocked over the past months because of how the sales of Nintendo's current handheld giant, the 3DS and Sony's champion the PSVita are dwindling down exponentially. This is mainly because of the usage of both types of devices.

People that are not gamers by heart are starting to play creative and innovative games because they can easily be accessed on their phones, the same unit that they use every day. Compare it to a standard handheld gaming console that its sole purpose is to only provide a gaming experience, the result is not shocking. Add also the fact that most game developers are now developing games for smartphones and tablets (like game giants Square-Enix and Electronic Arts, to name a few). It’s only a matter of time before handheld game consoles are diminished from the market (one sign is the significant price drop of the Nintendo 3DS last year) and tablets, smartphones and any other personal devices will reign supreme on the portable gaming arena.
