Every time I use ‘Run’ for some shortcut. Like notepad, calc, winword, excel and other programs.

Sometimes I go to the Windows direct link, use ‘run’ like temp, windows, recent but today, I lost my ‘Run’ from my start menu.

How can I recover the essential tools?

To get Run back, right click on the Start button and then click Properties. Then click on Customize and go to the Advanced tab. There check Run and click OK. That will bring back the Run option.

There reason for Run disappearing could be that too many items are listed on the Start menu. In that case you should try to copy this text:

  • Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurre ntVersionExplorer
  • Advanced]
  • "Start_ShowRun"=dword:00000001
  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurre ntVersionExplorer
  • Advanced]
  • "Start_ShowSearch"=dword:00000001
  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurre ntVersionExplorer
  • Advanced]
  • "StartMenuRun"=dword:00000001
  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurre ntVersionPolicies
  • Explorer]
  • "NoRun"=dword:00000000
  • "NoFind"=dword:00000000

And paste it in Notepad. Save it as Start.reg and make sure to save it in the all files. Then double click on saved .reg file, to merge the contents and restart.

When your run command has disappeared from the start button, what you need to do is right click on the start button, click on properties from the menu. Then select start menu and click on customize button to make it active. In the list that opens, scroll down to Run command and drug it and place it on the start menu. Click ok twice.

Now you can run it because its back on the start menu.
