I recently downloaded Resident Evil 5 on my Windows laptop. I was able to install the game on my computer successfully but when I try to launch the game, I get the re5dx9 exe error saying that xlive.dll was not found. Can someone help?

Let me inform you that to your relief, this is a particularly common error for users who have downloaded this game and are unable to play it. This error occurs when you are missing some Windows Live files and therefore in this case, due to missing xlive.dll you are unable to run the game.

The xlive.dll file comes as part of the Microsoft Windows Live package. Therefore, the thing you need to do is find out if this is installed on your computer. If you have windows live on your computer then check the version. If it is not the latest, then update it to the latest version. If it is the latest version, uninstall and install a fresh copy. This should solve your problem.

If you want to install and play “Resident Evil 5,” check the system requirements first and verify that your computer meets those requirements. Resident Evil 5 supports Windows 7.

Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 5

It requires 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad or equivalent 3.4 GHz AMD Phenom II x4 or faster processor, 4 GB RAM, Microsoft DirectX 9.0c-compatible video card with 512 MB video RAM and Shader 3.0 support (NVIDIA GeForce 9800 series, ATI Radeon HD 7770, or better), sound card, 800 x 600 minimum screen resolution, 15 GB free space, and internet connection for game activation.

The game doesn’t technically support Windows 8.x and Windows 10 as indicated on Steam but it should work on newer platforms. If the problem continues, try updating your video card driver. You can download the latest version from the manufacturer’s website. See the following list of computer and video card manufacturers:
