You can reinstall the new OS X while keeping everything intact including your settings. Follow these steps:

  1. Restart the laptop and immediately press down “Command-R” till an Apple logo in gray shade appears.
  2. Select the main language and click the arrow.
  3. Press Reinstall OS X and Continue. Follow all the available instructions and then choose the hard disk. Install it by authenticating with Apple ID.
  4. After the completion, select App store and install any new updates.
