Hi!  I have a problem with my laptop.  It runs with Windows 7 and I did not have any problems before this.  I had downloaded Avast and the service pack and then bam!  When I turned it on, it hanged when it displayed the Windows logo.  I tried to turn it on in safe mode but the same thing happens.  I don't know what to do anymore.  Please do help.

Hello Chad,

Is the Avast that you installed on your computer freeware, and did you downloaded it from a trusted site? I suspect that the  avast program that you installed was not genuine, it possibly had malware embedded in it that crashed your system. So  you will have to remove it. If you can reach the windows programs, I will advice that you run system restore to remove avast or trace it in the control panel and remove it.

Otherwise, it the screen does not do anything and just stays frozen, you will have to format the computer to remove the avast that you installed.

Good Luck!

When you go to the Advanced Boot Options, try choosing Last Known Good Configuration. If the problem was caused by a recent change on the system, this should be able to help.

If that doesn't help, once you get to the Advanced Boot Options, select Repair My Computer. This will take you to a Windows Recovery Environment. Just select the language settings when you get there then it will give you a few options to fix your computer. Try doing Startup Repair first since the computer is having problems booting up. If that doesn't work, try choosing System Restore and restore back to a day when you're computer was still working. If that fails as well, you may then have to reinstall your operating system.

Did you make a back up disc in case this kind of thing happened? If so, use that. If not, Did you get the avast off of avast's website, or a different site? I myself use avast, but I have not had any problems like this, because I did it off of avast's site. i also have windows 7 and am using a laptop. So, what I suggest to do, if the other commenters suggestions didn't work, is to go down to a best buy or computer hardware store that fixes computers (if you don't have a backup disc) and have them go through it and delete avast off of it for you. And for future advice, Get some Dvd-rw or Cd-rw's (dvd's are bigger space, so preferably that) and backup your system every time you download something like anti-virus's, OS's, etc. Anything that would have a big impact on your computer, ALWAYS back up before, just to be on the safe side 🙂 Also, the computer hardware store or best buy shouldn't charge that much to fix it. I guess it just depends on where you live.

Good Luck!

The first thing to do chad is to sure that the antivirus you downloaded is genuine and trusted. You may downloaded it in the genuinely avast site to make  sure that it work for sure and no problems. The other thing is that maybe your storage is almost full and occur a hang time to load it.
