Problem with rotating images in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

Dear TechyV Experts,

I hope you can help me out with my computer problem. This is not much urgent, but I will be happy if this issue is fixed here in TechyV.

My computer is operating on Windows XP Service Pack 2. I am not the one who encountered this problem, but its my sister. She is really fond of taking pictures and she told me that she got an issue with the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. She cannot rotate any of the images or pictures that she is viewing. I have tried to open some of my old pictures that I think I was able to rotate before, but even those did not work anymore.

Any advice?

Thanks.

Dear I read up all your post, you mentioned that you are facing the problem in rotating the pictures and also your sis is facing the same problem it seems to me that your windows is corrupt , and requires the reinstallation again as you also mentioned that the picture that can be rotated is now also un able to rotate in the picture or fax viewer , so it means most probably your window has got some sort of corruption or errors due to which this problem is occurring continuously in your personal computer, I will prefer you to reinstall windows and then check , hopefully it will solve your matter.

You can also check the rotation in the other software like BMP or jpeg or etc and if the same problem is there then  it’s mostly that your window is corrupted and need to be repaired or need to be reinstalled.

The error might be because the picture files accessed are stored in a shared folder on a remote computer in the network wherein the permission for Everyone group is set, and the user account used to log in has no administrative rights to access the shared folder. This occurs because Windows Picture and Fax Viewer use the ReplaceFile Application Programming Interface (API).

To fix this issue, click this supported hotfix download link provided by Microsoft. This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes. Please note that this requires Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2. After installing the update, restart your computer and the error should be resolved.
