Hi experts,

When I try to play a video file I ended up with an error message Overdrive Media Console error. The situation is when I try to upgrade the security of windows media player to the latest version; I am not able to continue with the process something is blocking me. I am not aware of the issue. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Pleasehelp. Thanks.

OverDrive Media Console

Unable to acquire a license to play the selected title.

The selected title requires a newer version of the Windows Media Player security upgrade (2.5.0.1) than is currently installed (2.5.0.0). Please upgrade the security of your Windows Media Player by selecting “Tools

> Windows Media Player Security Upgrade…” from within OverDrive Media Console.

Because downloading the security upgrade for Microsoft Windows Media Player requires opening the web browser, you need to use Microsoft Internet Explorer when downloading the installer. But the problem is, sometimes when Protected Mode is enabled in Microsoft Internet Explorer, a similar problem might be encountered. So, before downloading the Windows Media Player security upgrade you need to turn off Protected Mode.

To do this, open Microsoft Internet Explorer and go to Tools then Internet Options. Go to Security tab and uncheck “Enable Protected Mode [requires restarting Internet Explorer]”. Click OK and exit Microsoft Internet Explorer. Go back to OverDrive Media Console then go to Tools, Windows Media Player Security Upgrade and restart the upgrade.

Or, using Microsoft Internet Explorer, visit Security Component Upgrade to manually download the upgrade for your Windows Media Player. See if this works.

Hi Joseph,
The error is due to the Window player settings in the system.
There are multiple solutions to resolve this error.
Solution 1:
1) Click 'Start', right click 'Internet Explorer' in the system
2) Click 'Run as Administrator' option from the list
3) Click 'Yes' to continue the rights applied to it
4) Select the 'Upgrade' button and follow the prompt to complete the process
5) Restart the system after the procedure is completed

Solution 2:
1) Open the 'OverDrive Media Console' application
2) Click 'Tools' option in the software
3) Click 'Windows Media Player Security Upgrade' option
4) Click 'OK', the security patch is completed and restart the system
