Notepad error with the device connection

James,

It seems to be some software corrupted. If this just happened in both computers, maybe could be some spyware that infected both if you installed a program in both or use any USB flash memory contaminated.

I suggest you perform a System Restore in both computers. System Restore is a Windows tool that lets your computer load a previous configuration that worked with no issues in the past. Your computer makes some restoration points automatically, with this tool you go to that previous configuration and all changes in a software from that specific date are deleted. Your data will no be affected at all.

For the XP one, go to start, all programs, system tools, system restore. At the system restore screen, choose "restore my computer to an earlier time" and click next, then, choose from the calendar a date before the issue happened. The date should be in bold, click on next or accept. The computer will perform the process and restart up automatically. A successful message must appear at the end.

For the Windows 7, go to start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restoration, then do the same

Do not forget to scan the USB flash memory if that is the problem

Hope this helps
