Hi All,

I do not know if I am just busy or just sleepy, but I cannot see my recycle bin on the desktop.

Well, I am using a Windows Vista computer. I did not do anything on my computer. No recent changes in configuration of my computer. No recent installed applications. But, I did a clean up on my computer. I deleted several files in my documents. Most of them are Word and Excel documents. Also, I did a clean up on my desktop. I may have deleted it accidentally.

Now, I am having issues seeing or accessing it. I deleted an image which should be discarded and I need to get it back. Please help in restoring my recycle bin.

Thanking you.

  • Please refer to the following steps to solve your problem:
  • Right click on your desktop and select personalize; select change desktop icons and click on the box that says “Recycle Bin” and finally click on apply. The recycle bin should be now present on your desktop.
  • Alternatively you can go to control panel from start button then click on “Appearance and Personalization” and then on “Personalization”.  In the left hand side of your screen, click Change desktop icons, and make sure that the Recycle Bin check box is ticked. Then click on OK.

Hope to solve your problem.

Best of luck

Recycle Bin is missing after performing a clean up

Hello Ram,

  • I also encountered that problem before, it happened when I accidentally clicked "Delete" instead of "Empty Recycle Bin" to clean up Recycle Bin.
  • So this is how to  make your recycle bin appear(restored) on your desktop and retrieve the image.
  • First, right click on your desk top then click Personalize. Find the icon Change desktop icon then click it, you will then see a list of desktop icons, check the box before the word recycle bin then click OK. After that your recycle bin will appear again on your desktop. Open it and "click" the image you want to get back then lastly click "restore".

Thank you.
