To Start

  1. Turn off your printer, unplug from the power source and disconnect all USB cables. Reconnect your printer after some time and turn it on.
  2. Do a print test “Print Test Page”.
  3. Check the printer’s ink level.
  4. Check Your Ink Cartridge
  5. Make sure ink cartridges are put into place and are properly installed in their slot.
  6. make sure that you’ve removed the tape from over the vent
  7. Check for clogged vents. You can clean it by gently using a pin to clean up.
  8. Try using a different ink cartridge to see if your printer can recognize cartridges.
  9. Check Your Print Head
  10. Try Re-aligning the printer.
  11. Change the printer’s driver settings to “glossy photo paper” as this may trigger the printer to start printing again. By changing from paper type one to paper type two, you can trigger or jump-start the black cartridges to work
  12. Lastly, if nothing mentioned above works, reconfigure your printer.
  13. If your printer has stopped working after you have updated your PC then try uninstalling and reinstalling your printer driver.

If your printer suddenly won’t print black like when you run out of ink, here’s how to check the ink levels of your printer. Click “Start” or press the Windows key then in the search box type without quotes “devices and printers” then select “Devices and Printers” on the list. On the next screen, click the printer you want to check.

You will see the ink levels displayed at the bottom of the “Devices and Printers” section. The details will appear in the status area which you can click for more information. For Canon printers, start Canon IJ Status Monitor then go to “Maintenance” tab which displays the “View Printer Status” screen. From the pop-up screen, you’ll be able to view the ink levels.

Click “Ink Detail” to get a more detailed look into how much ink is left in your Canon printer.
