You can try to format the SD card by using your mobile phone directly. You also can try to format your SD card by using the cable of mobile, connect to the laptop, or PC. If it doesn't work, then you can first install Microsoft security essentials, then install the software name Unlocker, do a full scan of your USB then run the Unlocker on the card connected your computer to kill all the process and format it. It must be working.

If that is a microSD card, it can be formatted both with a phone and computer. But the best way to format it is with your phone if you want to use it on your phone because the formatting will be optimized for your device. If that is a newly purchased microSD card and you cannot format it on your computer, try formatting it with your phone.

If this doesn’t work and you still can’t format the card, one possible cause is a damaged media. In this case, you should return it to the store where you bought it. Factory defect cannot be avoided since the manufacturer cannot check every card they manufacture. The only feasible check is the actual usage of the user.

The lifespan of a microSD card is the same as with a USB flash drive. The life of a USB flash drive or the period of its usability depends on the number of “writes” to the drive. As you delete, copy, and move data to the USB flash drive, you are also shortening its life.

When you delete a file or folder on the USB flash drive, it causes a “write” to the drive because you are removing the data from the drive by emptying the space the file or folder occupies. This is the same when you copy data from your hard drive to the USB flash drive, it “writes” the data to the flash drive.

Moving data from another drive to the flash drive or within the flash drive is pretty much the same because it performs both deleting and copying of data. But don’t worry, a USB flash drive has millions of writes that’s why it lasts for many years.
