Hi Richard Green!
You can unplug the affected device from the USB port and then plug it back in for make sure that the connection is secure.
Unplug all USB accessories from the computer. Then start plugging in USB devices one at a time to make sure they all working well.
You can open System Profiler from the Utilities folder, which is inside the applications folder. From the content column select USB;
-
If the device show up in system profiler, Then the issue is usually due to software, then try to updating the drivers, creating a new user, or reinstalling the system software.
-
And if the device doesn't show up in System Profiler , then the issue is more likely to be hardware_either the device or the USB port isn't working properly.

Sometimes USB devices are not recognized because those become malfunctioned. Have you tried other ports too?
