If two years passed from the day you bought your lenovo, that would mean that the warranty period is over so you can open your laptop. If you didn't change anything in your bios (Basic Input Output System) than it's a hardware problem. And if you changed anything in your BIOS then try resetting it to default settings and updating it. If this doesn't work it's for sure a hardware problem. It's nothing serious but you have to fix it as soon as you can. In my opinion there are two options, your FAN (cooler) has crashed and you have to change it or it's just messy and dusty too much so it doesn't work and you just have to clean it. You can do this procedure at home but have to have a compressor to clean your fan. You can open your laptop and than get the battery off so you can access the FAN. You can see a picture below, it's how your lenovo looks inside.

Hey Luana,

well I m also using Lenovo thinkpad, it normally don’t but if I continuously keep it in my lap I feel like burning which doesn’t happen with other laptops. If it has started happening from few days do check your environment first. Have you changed the sitting plan? Means might be the laptop is placed at such place where it heat sink is not sinking heat properly. Try buying “cool pad” easily available in market to keep notebooks a bit cooler.

Also check the power saver settings in the operating system make them a bit lower. If you have been using it for long time and regularly clean its air vent. And if all this doesn’t work check the fan it is not functioning properly and needs repairing.

Hello Luana,

Like you said your laptop gets overheated and shuts down automatically. It happens basically due to faulty external cooling system. I would  suggest you to check your fan and if possible replace it. Also check at what speed is your CPU running if possible download a free application which monitors CPU's speed so that you get a fair idea what's the real problem. Also remove the CPU, clean up all the dust and other particles and then check. Also you can go to Desktop properties in the Power saving panel and reduce brightness as well as contrast and other such options. And always use a laptop stand and protect your laptop from overheating. Am sure this will work.

Good Luck

Thanks!
