I'm trying to sync my iPHONE with iTUNES version 10.3.1 and I'm getting a sync error. It says that it can't be synced and shows the error message "unknown error occurred (-50)".I have successfully synced this device with the same G4 Powerbook since summer of 2011 with no issues at all. Only thing that changed  is that I moved to Leopard but I have successfully synced since then.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

The full error reads “The [device] cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (-50)”. The problem happens when you try to synchronize your iPhone or iPod touch with your Mac computer. Other users also report to receive the error when synchronizing with their Apple TV. There are no concrete solutions to this problem and attempts to fix it vary.

On the other hand, there is one article in the Apple knowledge base that has now been removed that might be the best solution to this problem. The solution based on the article is to completely delete the existing network settings and rebuild the preferences for connecting. To try this, on the Finder, go to “Go” then “Go to Folder” or press Command + Shift + G.

In “Go to Folder” box, type without quotes “/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration” then click “Go”. In the popup window, locate the file called “NetworkInterfaces.plist” then drag it to the Trash to delete it and then restart your computer. After booting, click the Apple menu then go to “System Preferences” then “Network”. In the “Location” dropdown menu, select “Edit Locations”.

Click on the plus button (+) and create a new location for your Mac. Apply any special settings that may be needed by your connection then try to sync your devices. See if this works.
