I am a user of Windows 8.1, and I often get these messages of invalid IP configuration. Especially when I restart my computer. When this problem occurs, all other devices would be working fine except this computer. Is there any way to prevent it happening.

The problem occurs because of IP version sync problems. You can disable IPv6 to sort out this problem.

Step 1: Type “control” in the run command to open control panel.

Step 2: Click on the icon saying Network and Sharing Center. and click on the Connection link.

Step 3: To select click on “Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)” and click on Properties.

Step 4: “Obtain IP address automatically” option should be checked and close the dialog box.

Step 5: Uncheck “Internet Protocol Version 6(TCP/IPv6)” and click OK button

Step 6: Disconnect and connect the Network back. Now there won't be any further problems.

If you want to try to connect your laptop to the internet via local area network, you need to plug the network cable to your laptop’s network port then the other end of the cable should be plugged into the Wi-Fi router. This should allow you to connect to the internet with a cable via the Wi-Fi router.

If you can’t connect via cable but you have connection via Wi-Fi, try setting your network card to DHCP so an IP address can be assigned automatically when you connect. To set your LAN card or Ethernet adapter to DHCP, click “Start”, “Control Panel”, “Network and Sharing Center” then select “Change adapter settings” on the left pane.

On the next screen, right-click your connection then select “Properties”. In “Local Area Connection Properties” dialog, select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” then click “Properties”. On the properties dialog, in “General” tab, select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and then “Obtain DNS server address automatically”. Click “OK” then restart the computer.
