Hi

In our University we currently use Moodle 1.9 for our LMS (Learning Management System). I got a project to update the system in to Moodle 2.1 version. So I need to know what are the Advantages and Disadvantages of updating the system into Moodle 2.1.

Hi,

Moodle 2.1 is way better than 1.9. I can tell you a few of its advantages:

1. New Question Engine

Moodle 2.1 Question system is rewritten and it supports a lot of functionality plus its much more robust than 1.9

2. Ability to restore Course contents from Moodle 1.9 backup files

3. Moodle 2.1 supports Mobile Devices whereas as you know Moodle 1.9 cannot.

4. More Security is added

Solomon

Hi there user:

Consider Moodle 2.1 ‘better’ of course than the old version. Fortunately, I have seen no shadow of disadvantages to upgrade.  Moodle 2.1 has new features which improved its platforms. Consistency across all its pages, dockable, and able customized home pages. It has new comments block, which can enable commenting anywhere, and automatically added without clicking refresh button. Improved course options, now more than 52 sections are allowed. Restrict to access the activities. And most important of all, it has improved navigation for quizzes.

Thanks for posting.

Hello Akiltec,

There are a number of features of Moodle 2.1 that makes it more advantageous compared to 1.9. These include a new type of question engine that gives way to users for the creation of all kinds of question types. A Certainty-Based Marking is also added to facilitate more precise questioning and answering feature. Another amazing feature that it has is its capability to support mobile applications for some functions. These include Moodle Themes that have direct support for specific mobile phones and automatic detection of its browsers. The 2.1 version also has an improved configuration interface for blocks that make it easier to understand compared to the earlier version. There has been no noticeable disadvantage in this version, instead it restores backups of your Moodle 1.9. Most interesting is the fact that you can upgrade directly to 2.1 even without upgrading to 2.0.
