Hi,

I am fortunately able to save all files from the hard disk when our aged server crashed. At present there is a new server for us and it is a matter of surprise for me how would it be possible to transfer mails to the newest Exchange ’10? In my portable hard drive I got my prior directory tree and I am willing to transfer mails to the new accounts from those of existing. Any idea how would I do this? Thank you for your cooperation.

Hello Wyman,

You can successfully migrate from both exchange 2003 as well as Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010. Note that you can you can be able to transition to Exchange 2010 in the case where there are the following existing messaging systems:

  • Exchange 2007 messaging system
  • Combined Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 messaging system

What this implies is that you are doing an upgrade of Exchange 2003, and you can choose to do that by either transition the organization, or you can just opt to migrate to a new organization. Most people prefer to remain with the Exchange data from the existing organization, and you can also do that if you wish to. You will need to choose to transition to Exchange 2010.

Regards,

Carl
