I am using Microsoft Security essential as a antivirus tool for my dextop pc.The problem is that it does not catch any virus but when we scan any drive  file or a folder. If it contains any virus, spam or malware it detects and clean it.Anyone knows why MSE does not catches virus automatically ?

You need to make sure Windows defender is included in the list of softwares in your PC start-up ie (Windows defender starts automatically when your PC is switched on) and make sure "Real time protection" is switched on and working. As always you need to make sure anti-virus definitions are up-to-date  and auto-update
is enabled. Good Luck!

Dear Abrahamahartman

There could be two reasons and offcourse two solutions , one for each.

Real time protection is turned off

Solution: The most commonly chances are that the real time protection is turned off to turn on the real time protection , please follow the steps below.

1. Open the microsoft security essentials program.

2. Click on settings.

3. Click on the real time protection option and check the "turn on real time protection" box.

4. Click the save changes.

5. Reboot the computer and check again the settings to confirm that real time protection is on, and if it is on, then your problem has been resolved.

Software Conflict:

Sometimes a security software, such as any antivirus, firewall,  may conflict the MSE and cause this error.

Therefore make sure that you haven't installed any other security software except MSE. If you have installed any other security software first remove that software from control panel and then try to turn on real time protection. If problem persists then there is only solution to uninstall and then reinstall MSE.

Hope to answer the question.
