Hello Jeremiah,

As you want to use Linux operating system, you can download this OS entirely from the internet completely for free and there is no registration fees, no costs per user, free updates, and freely available source code in case you want to change the behavior of your system. It is portable to any hardware and also secure and versatile. From a computer small enough to be held in one hand with 2 MB of memory to petabyte (A unit of information equal to 1000 terabytes or 10^15 bytes) storage cluster with hundreds of nodes: add or remove the appropriate packages and Linux fits all. You don't need a supercomputer anymore, because you can use Linux to do big things using the building blocks provided with the system. If you want to do little things, such as making an operating system for an embedded processor or just recycling your old 486, Linux will do that as well. Because of Linux has been developed and tested by so many users, there are far too many distributions of this OS. But the followings are very good choices for beginners.

  • Fedora Core
  • Debian
  • SuSE Linux
  • Mandriva (former MandrakeSoft)
  • Knoppix: An operating system that runs from your CD-ROM, you don't need to install anything.

For Fedora Core 6.0 Linux distribution you need minimum 90 MB at the initial stage of installation, which required some additional space of 175 MB. But the total disk covers 9 GB space after the installation of full packages. It’s also need 5% of free space for proper system operation. If you want to learn details about Fedora Core 6.0

You can also visit to find out proper hardware compatibility. In this website you will get the details information about Linux operating system which helps you to take decision about using better distributions.

You can also visit to learn more about minimum requirements.

I think if you read this solution very carefuly and visit the above website then you must find your answer and will be a Linux expert very soon.

If you have any other question then please don’t hesitate.

Thank You.
