The error code 601

Is completely because of battery failure of your device. It usually occurs when the primary battery is less than 25%.

When the error code 601 message pops on the screen, Shut Down your device and remove the battery. Minimum after 20 seconds put back the battery and restart the device and plug in the power source.

During booting press F2 and select battery Diagnosis from the menu and press Enter

Select Component test and from the new menu select Power.

In the Power menu, select Battery and run the Diagnosis test once.

If the result shows failed, then replace your battery.

In Hewlett-Packard computers, you may receive the message “Primary (internal) Battery (601)”. This message means the measured storage capacity of the primary battery or the internal battery is below twenty five percent (25%) of the original storage capacity. The number “601” denotes the associated error code and recorded in the system log. The full message reads:

HP Battery Alert
The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated below to be very low.
For optimal performance, this battery may need to be replaced.

To fix the problem, just replace the battery with a new one. On startup, in HP computers, HP utilities perform a system validation. Once the machine has passed the check, the utilities then performs a battery check by analyzing the remaining capacity of the primary battery including the capacity of any secondary battery if available.

To better understand what a Battery storage capacity is, it is the amount of energy that the battery can store to power a portable device like a notebook computer. The lower the storage capacity of a battery, the shorter the amount of time it can power a portable device. All rechargeable batteries slowly lose their storage capacity.

This loss in storage capacity because of aging is irreversible and cannot be restored. The maximum storage capacity of a brand new battery can be very different from the maximum storage capacity of a battery after one year of use.
