There are many software that you can use to encrypt your folders. One is the Folder Lock software that will keep your files locked and has an automatic back-up to an online storage of all the protected files. It can also secure USB drives and CD/DVD drives. You don't need to manually backup your files since it allows automatic syncing to an online storage. It works with Windows PC 32 and 64-bit versions, Windows Vista and Windows 7. You can use the 30-day trial and then purchase it for $39.95. You can get it from the link below:

If you want your folder to prompt you with a password every time you open it, the easiest way is to encrypt the folder. If you are using Windows XP Professional, here’s how to do it. Open Windows Explorer then navigate to the folder you want to encrypt. Next, right-click that folder and select “Properties.” In “General” tab in the Properties window, click “Advanced.”
In the “Advanced Attributes” dialog, under “Compress or Encrypt attributes” section, select or check “Encrypt contents to secure data” then click “OK” all throughout.
And that’s it. The folder is now encrypted. Note: you will not be prompted for a password when you access the folder but other users will not have access to that encrypted folder. On the other hand, if you really want to be prompted with a password when you open a folder, try installing LocK-A-FoLdeR. It supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.
Another one you can try to protect your folder with a password is Folder Lock. It supports Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10.
