I have a W7 tower that has been giving me a lot of problems recently. It just happens to lose its connection to the internet occasionally and I have to click on the notification icon, troubleshoot it and it will regain the connection. It does this about 7 times a day. What could be the issue?

It is not clear if you are using Wi-Fi connection or DSL connection for your internet. If you are connecting to the internet via a DSL connection, check your Ethernet adapter or maybe try updating its driver. First, try reinstalling the network adapter. Right-click My Computer then select Properties. Select Hardware tab then click Device Manager.

Expand your network adapter then right-click on your Ethernet card and then select Uninstall. Once removed, close the window then reboot the computer. Install the driver for the Ethernet card again then try connecting to the internet. See if there is a difference. If your connection still drops, disconnect the network cable from the Ethernet card then connect it again.

Verify your connection again. If this doesn’t work, try updating its driver. Open your web browser then visit the manufacturer’s website of your network card. Check if there is an updated driver for your network adapter then download and install it. On the other hand, if you are connecting via Wi-Fi, check the signal of the Wi-Fi network where you are connected to if it is weak or strong.

If you are receiving a weak signal then that’s the reason. Try to select a network that is stronger than the one you are connected to. If there’s no problem with the Wi-Fi signal, try reinstalling your Wi-Fi adapter. Follow the same steps described above with the Ethernet card to reinstall your Wi-Fi adapter.
