0x80040202 error appears in the Open Platform Communications (OPC) client application when it fails to receive a call-back from the OPC server. When the application can’t connect with the server, then 0x80040202 error occurs, and it creates two symptoms that are:

  • It can’t show data updates.
  • It will not be able to create OPC Group.

The error can be fixed by downloading the OPC Expert, which is specially designed for OPC errors. OPC Expert will diagnose the problem completely and explain the cause of the error clearly to the user. Some other ways to fix the OPC error are as follows:

  • Disable Third-party Antivirus by uninstalling the application or turn-off the virus setting manually.
  • Run the computer to safe mode.
  • Restart the computer.
