Try going into the setting's menu on your phone and see if you could change any settings regarding Touchscreen. If you don't find anything related to the screen then probably it is not possible manually to reconfigure it.
Also try looking up the user guide given at the time of purchase of the phone.
Generally in capacitive touchscreens when you touch the screen a connection is setup with the capacitors which respond to the negligible amount of current passed.
Hence, I think there must be some problem with your touchscreen and a few of the capacitors might have discharged. Consult the nearest service Centre regarding this and then decide.
