0x80040200 Xbox error occurs when Windows Update continuously fails to search for updates and can’t install them. The other things responsible for this error are Windows Registry, Windows Filesystem, Virus, Corrupted files, Adware, Misconfiguration, Internet access, and Windows update service.

The steps to fix the 0x80040200 Xbox error are as follows:

  • Power off your Xbox device and turn it on after 10 seconds and restart the application.
  • Check if the game is updating.
  • Reset Xbox while keeping your games.

Press the Xbox button to open the Xbox guide and go to the Setting tab and open it. Now, go to system -> Console info and select Reset console. On the confirmation dialog, choose Reset and keep my Games and apps. Complete the installation by clicking on Install.

  • Delete and reinstall the games.

Go to the Xbox guide and select My games and apps. Press the start button and choose Manage game. Navigate to right pane and click on Uninstall all the options. Confirm all the pop-up messages and return to the Manage menu and go to the Ready to install section and select Install all.

  • Clear cache

Turn off the Xbox and when the indicator lights on the front of the Xbox One and the console’s power bricks are off, unplug the power brick.

Leave it for few minutes and plug the power brick back into the Xbox and turn it on.
