I am unable to perform a clean installation of Ubuntu 11.10

I am unable to perform a clean installation of Ubuntu 11.10 using the 32-bit or 64-bit installation CD on my dual boot computer as the screen breaks to a black background with a cursor without proceeding to the installation process. I am able to successfully complete the 64-bit installation process using a USB stick but on restarting the computer, it throws the following error message: “Error: invalid arch independent ELF magic”

Can anyone help me to resolve the issue?

The fix for this problem is to first boot from ubuntu 11.10 live cd, then type following commands in terminal window.

sudo mount /dev/sda5 /mnt

sudo grub-install –root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda

Note: verify your root mount point by using partition magic and replace "sda5" with the valid one for your situation.

Hello,

It seems like you have really big problem out there, as you have mentioned you get problem after completing setup for 32 bit installation once it done.

I would like to know when you complete installation for 32 bit set up does it ask you for username and password for your OS?

If answer is no then it means you have to get fresh copy of set up otherwise you have to make first partition of Ubuntu and then for another installation for another OS.
