Hi,

I am using two Ubuntu machines and trying to share folders from one to the other. When I attempt to do this task on the server I get the following error message saying “Failed to mount Windows share”. I think you help me to fix this problem so please guide me. Thanks.

Can’t display location “smb://student2.lse.ac.uk/s_users/smithygf”

Resolution 1:

  • Check the firewall on your PCs. It is usually the common cause of that issue when sharing files between ubuntu PCs.
  • Also make sure that the file or folder has sharing privileges for both PCs.

Resolution 2:

Check if smbclient is installed. It could be also the cause to the error that you are getting. Go to System > Administration > Synaptic and then search for smbclient.

Tyler
