When I am opening an excel file, I am getting a DDE error. I have a Windows 10 PC. I have cleared the temp files, etc., but the error persists. I want help to troubleshoot “a DDE error has occurred (Excel 2010).”

How To Troubleshoot “a DDE Error Has Occurred (Excel 2010)?”

You get the following error – “a DDE error has occurred (Excel 2010)” when the file name exceeds the permissible length.

Method 1

a. Rename your excel file.
b. Give a short name of 10 or 20 characters.
c. Rename the folder that contains the file.
d. Try to open the file.

Method 2

a. Open the Excel app by going to the start menu.
b. Do not open your excel file directly.
c. Click on File on the menu bar.
d. Click on Open -> Browse.

e. Select your file.
f. In the Open drop-down menu, select Open and Repair.
g. Your file should open.
